MICROBLADING QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
At Microblading Santa Barbara, I believe that your brows speak louder than words. Whether you want to fill, define, darken your brows or simply don’t want to spend 20 minutes every morning perfecting them, microblading is for you!

what is microblading?
Microblading is a unique form of cosmetic tattoo that creates natural-looking brows with a handheld microblade. Each individual "hair" is drawn on in a unique design to flow with your natural brow hair. It's been around in Asia for over 30 years, but has only recently caught attention in the US.

do you offer other brow techniques?
Yes! I offer powder brows, which uses a single needle machine to mimic the look of makeup. I also offer combination brows, which is a combination of microblading and powder brows, and many variations of that! Please click here for more details on each technique I offer.

i've seen tattooed brows before, and i'm not a fan...
Before the emergence of microblading, many women were left with no choice but to have their eyebrows tattooed using a traditional tattoo machine. Traditional tattooing implants pigment at least 7 layers deep into the skin, making it last much longer and is also more damaging to the skin (not to mention it usually fades to a red color!). Microblading pigment is only implanted 3 layers deep into the skin, and in very fine lines which fade evenly over time. It is incredibly natural looking, it's really quite amazing!

does it last forever?
Microblading only lasts anywhere between 1-3 years depending on your skin type, age, and lifestyle. The dryer the skin, the longer it will last. It tends to fade very quickly with extremely oily skin, in which case I recommend a powder brow. Sun and anti-aging products will also make microblading fade faster.
ok, i’m kind of into it, but that must hurt a lot...

Nope. I use a topical anesthetic, which means you won't feel much during the procedure. Depending on your skin's sensitivity, you may feel slight discomfort. Most people just report a strange sound during the procedure (I have headphones on hand if need be!).
so, what’s the downside?
Perfect brows take time and patience. I set up a total of two appointments with every client. During the first appointment, I'll take photos of your brows and sketch on a preliminary frame for your shape. We will then finalize your perfect brow shape by combining elements of the golden ratio and your unique features. You will then numb for 15 minutes (and relax!). After which I begin microblading which takes around 45 minutes depending on the person and procedure desired. The second appointment is a 1-hour touch-up that should be between 4-12 weeks after your original procedure. Because everyone heals differently, this appointment is almost always necessary and to be expected. The microblading procedure is not considered complete until you get your touch-up!
am i going to have to go into hiding
for weeks after the procedure?!

No! The downtime is really only that your brows will get darker and thicker in the first 7-10 days post-procedure. Each hair that is drawn on turns into a scab, making them look more dramatic than how they are going to heal (although personally I think they look great in this stage!). They will then start to lighten as they heal/peel, in which case you can simply fill them in with brow pencil until your touch-up session. The trickiest part of the healing process is avoiding water and sweat for those first 10-14 days. If you're going on a tropical vacation where you plan on swimming, you'll want to be at least two weeks healed before you leave for your trip.

do i need a consultation first?

Only if you have previous tattooing is a consultation necessary. You can book a consultation online to discuss candidacy, shape, color, and any questions you may have. Please note that these topics are covered in full microblading services already, so it is not required in order to book an appointment. The $50 non-refundable fee will be credited towards your microblading procedure should you choose to move forward.

i've had microblading by another artist, can you touch me up?
All new clients are treated the same. You will go through a similar if not more difficult process e.g. re-shaping, color correction, and re-microblading unique to my own style of hairstrokes. So this means you will be charged the full price. It's sort of like Monet trying to go over a Picasso, all artists are VERY different, and it is impossible to just touch-up someone else's work without making it your own work of art.

how much does it cost?

I charge $800 for ALL new clients, regardless of previous tattooing/correction work and no matter how full/sparse your brows are. It's the same process for everyone from start to finish! This cost includes the touch-up session done 4-12 weeks after the first session. Your credit card information will be taken at the time of booking for no-show protection. No-shows will be charged $400.
